Bed and Breakfast & Bird Hotel Alamo, TX │ Alamo Inn B&B, Gear, & Tours

Alamo Inn B&B, Gear, & Tours features a range of private suites located in Alamo, Texas in the center of the richest birding area in the U.S. When you stay with us, you'll feel like you have just stepped back in time. Our Inn is clean, quiet, romantic, and the perfect spot for bird and butterfly watchers and those just needing a comfortable place to lay their head while traveling.

Join us for a truly relaxing and enjoyable get away. With two different buildings just 50 yards apart on the original town square of the City of Alamo, our suites and rooms all have private bathrooms, refrigerator, coffee maker, electric tea kettle, cable TV, wireless Internet, and more, to make your stay feel homey. Most of our beds are queen or king size, with twin available upon request. For your peace of mind and safety, every one of our suites is fitted with one (or more) smoke detector and one carbon monoxide detector.

Since we opened our doors in November of 1999, Keith Hackland and Audrey Jones hands on management has made the Alamo Inn B&B one of the area's most recommended bed and breakfasts. Our building at 801 Main Street (on the Alamo town square) dates back to 1919 when the City of Alamo was just getting established. Due to its historic nature, our suites are smoke-free and we have no elevator, though we do have some rooms available on the first floor. Click here to make a reservation today!

Our garden suites at 101 S. 7th Place (on the Alamo town square) date back to the 1970s and are also all non-smoking. These suites all have king size beds (a few can be made into twin beds), living rooms, bathrooms, and full kitchens. They are upstairs and downstairs, with comfortable garden furniture on the front porches, in two buildings facing each other across a flower garden dotted with bird baths. The garden has thick St. Augustine's lawns, flowering roses, rosemary, red salvia, purple and orange lantana, native herbs, tropical shrubs, Mexican and Cape honey suckle, and attracts birds such as Buff-bellied Hummingbird, Green Parakeet, Great Kiskadee, Golden-fronted Woodpecker, Lesser Nighthawk (spring), Inca Dove, White-winged Dove, and is presided over by Northern Mockingbirds and Great-tailed Grackles. The garden also attracts a great variety of butterflies and moths. Click here to check availability of suites. Cottages and other B&B options located away from Alamo town square are also available here (and are all non-smoking).

Alamo Inn B&B is proud to provide guests with optional breakfast and take out lunch supplies, available 24 hours a day in season (fall through spring) for a modest extra fee. We offer a computer, printer, and telephone (including long distance) for the use of guests at no charge, and free wireless internet. In addition to the dining area, we also offer a meeting room.

Also located at 801 Main St we operate Alamo Outdoor Store, offering a large variety of birding, butterfly and related nature books, plus maps, gear, gifts, birding binoculars, birding scopes, wild bird supplies.

We offer birding tours of Texas (including the Lower Rio Grande Valley) and Arizona for three or more people (require advance booking).

Banking: Travelers checks (cheques) are generally not accepted in the Valley, however we may accept them from registered guests we know. Almost everyone accepts credit cards and bank cards with a Visa or Mastercard logo. The simplest and most cost effective means of obtaining U.S. currency is using a credit card or bank card to withdraw cash at one of the very common ATMs (cash machines ). Foreign currently is not exchanged by banks here (except for the Mexican peso).

Roads are good here: Regular small sedans work well on our roads. Four wheel drive is not needed. Navigation is easy. We have maps available. We have Garmin GPS available for inexpensive rental.

Speed limits: It is very important to drive slower than the posted speed limit in Texas. There is no leeway allowed and police issue citations for infractions.

Border area: Since we are located on an international border it is important to carry identification, as there are check points where identification may be required (for example on the road returning from Boca Chica). Texas is safe from the violence in Mexico. There is a large Federal and State law enforcement presence on the Texas side of the border. Birding hot spots on the river are safe to visit.

Mexico: We highly recommend checking with the U.S. State Department travel advice online before visiting Mexico. For those who enter Mexico from U.S. a passport is required, even for Americans, to return to U.S.
